The ancient ruins

And here it is! Blast from the dark ages past...

I love how the textures of the crumbling architecture matches my raggedy clothes. And how the ancientness suits the almost medieval dress. My photog tweaked the colors as well, so that adds another dimension of grime and ... something.

Whatever heh, we're most probably gonna do a reshoot because there are improvements that we could make to the poses and lighting.

On abandoned houses!

Epic shoots at an abandoned house, studio and studio, all in the space of four days, makes Lique a very tired girl.

But very happy. I've translated images from my brain to my body and thus to camera. And that is a strangely gratifying thing.

I like abandoned houses. They smell funny and they have old cobwebs and one is liable to fall through the rotting floorboards at any time into DOOM AND GLOOM.

But really, the algae covered walls and moss-stained pillars are a sight to behold. There's just this neverending stream of oooooh-we-can-do-THIS and omg-look-at-THAT when I was there. Sometimes, people may say that they've run out of ideas, or that this place has been shot to death. But no. All it takes is a new outfit change, props, even just messing around to get new material. In fact, my best shots are taken quite randomly and in quite unintended circumstances.

Whatever the case, I think the main point here is to have FUN.

If it's work, I might as well stick to my regular day job heh.

Touchy subject #1: Fees

Ok let's get this straight.

My fees aren't cheap.

Why?

I'm good, I know that.

I aim to provide for you guys the best poses, outfit coordination, makeup and whatnot I can ever give. HOWEVER, if you're gonna bargain with me for discounts and "best prices", you're probably going to get substandard work.

It's no secret that you get what you pay for, so it's really your choice:

Full price and quality work or discounts with half-assed gesticulations.

Freelance modeling... why and how it works

Freelance modeling is what I do. That is, I put up pictures of myself, and if people want me as their photographic / videographic / drawing model, they contact me and we agree on a time and price. I'm not under any agency--don't know why--just never got round to it I suppose. And in a way, I'm glad, because freelancing allows me to work when I like and with whomever I like. However, I get much less clients since my network is much, much smaller.

The nature of this job is transient and unpredictable, based on factors that adjust and morph according to the whims of the artistic and fashionable society. What that means, is that demand isn't certain--which is probably the case for most freelance jobs. However, I think that's more so for alternative models, especially in Singapore where the general trend of  preference leans toward Xiao Mei Mei's ('little girls' in literal Mandarin-to-English translation) who smile cutely and wear cute things...  Example right here:

Anyway, that's only one out of many factors that determine how many assignments I have. So sometimes I get flooded with bookings and sometimes I get dry spells that rival the Sahara desert.

Thank goodness I don't rely on this for my main income. I make just a little pocket money from this so I can throw the money from my day job into the bank.

It's working great for me, because I'm not the sort of Coach / Gucci / Louis Vuitton etc high maintenance girl. So I'm happy. And I'm happy modeling. So. yay!

Being different--alternative modeling

Sometimes I feel really weird and alone.

I know I'm not the usual kind of model, not even the usual kind of girl. Hence I'm always at the fringe, not quite fitting in--not quite in the realm of social anxiety--but trying, as much as possible, to do what I like to get by and have fun on my own.

And I suppose being an alternative model doesn't help much with the "fitting in" issue that irks me at times. Yet I like being one--I don't know how much of that is masochism on my part, but I do know I'll be annoyed if I've too much competition hahah!

I suppose one has to take the bad along with the good.

And take it easy. Modeling IS fucking fun!

About local photographers...

Local (Singaporean) photographers come in several different breeds.

1. 
   
   Guy with Camera (aka GWC): This is the "hobbyist" who takes pictures of models in lingerie and assorted sexy outfits. Mostly for wank-material. May bargain shoot prices or pay, quite eagerly, however much I request.
2. 
   
   Arty farty: He doesn't care how others view his work. As long as he gets the shots he wants, no matter how eccentric, he's happy. I like this kind of people; this is when work becomes play and there's so much creativity exploding from the both of us.
3. 
   
   Commercial: Shoots only trendy stuff. Wants cliched poses. I find these shoots to be more work-like rather than fun... But oh well, money is money, so bring it on!

I really love the photog who did this series of shots you see here. He's the arty farty kind who lets me be myself. Not many photographers in Singapore would do that. Usually, they'd prefer standard shots of pretty girls in trendy clothing / lingerie. Perhaps it's the "be safe" mentality from the Singaporean mindset overflowing into this realm of art and creativity... Or maybe it's just commercialism. Whatever it is, I'm glad to find him, and glad that he's one my my regular photogs. I'm just waiting to get COLOR versions of these pictures, cos they're almost high-fashion-esque due to high-key lighting. Mmmm, high-fashion.

He's pretty open to the goth / fetish concept as well, and WE WANT TO SHOOT SUICIDE GIRLS' STYLE.

Who knows, I may turn him onto goth yet!

Just got a shipment of clothing from the money-sucking horreur that is EBAY. I got a shit-ton of corsets and lacy lingerie along with my usual indulgence in my favourite alternative / goth clothing line ever--LIP SERVICE.

So there will be corset-related Victoriana shoots coming up, and perhaps something cybergoth. I've no idea WHERE, because location is everything, and the number of run-down buildings in Singapore are dwindling with alacrity... So. We might make do with a hotel--we'll think of something..
